NCBI Approach

Developing strong and inclusive organizations and communities

Our workshops encourage individuals and groups to share their experiences of discrimination and or oppression in order to build understanding among people. Listening and resonating to the feelings of mistreatment can create new understanding and move people to take action.

Understanding the impact of oppression

Rigid confrontational position taking can be reframed to include the reasons and concerns of both groups in a conflict. NCBI’s alliance building techniques provide leaders with the skills needed to give people additional information that enables them to engage in meaningful dialogue that builds bridges across the controversy.

Building coalitions amongst groups in conflict

NCBI’s programs create an environment in which people of all backgrounds want to belong. There is a space to hear the voices of all groups and their issues. By understanding the issues and concerns of different groups, individuals are more able to be effective allies in addressing discrimination and the oppression.

The National Coalition Building Institute (NCBI) Canada, is a non-profit organization established in 1990 and is dedicated to developing leadership that builds diverse and inclusive environments. Our principles and theories have been developed over the past 20 years, since it's inception in 1984, and incorporate an understanding of how each oppression affects individuals, organizations and communities. In addition, because of our international membership, we utilize the expertise of our diverse membership in the building of all programs.
